Delaware Christian Varsity Baseball fought back after falling down by six runs in the fourth inning. The comeback fell just short though, in a 7-8 defeat to Liberty Christian Academy on Monday. Delaware Christian scored five runs in the failed comeback on a single by Curtis Bean, a double by Cole Petersimes and an error all in the fifth, and then a single by Bean in the sixth.
The Eagles fell behind early in the loss. Liberty Christian scored on a single by Ethan in the first inning (bringing in two runs), a fielder’s choice by Jake in the first inning, a single by Peter in the second inning, a error in the second inning, and a double by Tim in the second inning.
Behind most the game, Delaware Christian got their rally going in the fifth when they scored four runs, ending the inning at 6-8. Delaware Christian Baseball big bats were led by Bean, Petersimes, and John Comer, who each had RBIs in the powerful inning.
Ryan Surowiec led things off on the hill for Delaware Christian, allowing eight hits and eight runs over four innings, striking out four. Ryan Manny threw two innings in relief with a strong performance on the mound. In just 20 pitches he allowed zero hits, zero runs and had 4 strikeouts, helping his team at a chance for the comeback win.
But even with ten hits in the game and a strong showing in the last three innings, it would not be enough for the Eagles to come away with the win. Manny, Harris, and Bean each managed multiple hits, each with two to lead Delaware Christian.
Liberty Christian Academy tallied eight hits in the game. Peter, Jake, and Tim each racked up multiple hits, Peter leading Liberty with three hits in four at bats.
The Delaware Christian Eagles will host their next game again MOCAL opponent Madison Christian on Tuesday, May 1. Their seven seniors will also be honored before the game with the first pitch scheduled to fall at 5:30.
