Eagles News · Strong Defense Not Enough for Delaware Christian Varsity Softball

Delaware Christian Varsity Softball fell behind early and couldn’t come back in a double header at Ridgedale on Saturday. Ridgedale won the first game 4-1, but the second game was much closer ending with a 1-0 win for the Rockets.

Olivia VanBuskirk got the start for Ridgedale. She allowed 12 hits on the day (five in game one, seven in game two) and only one run total on the day.  Her strong performance on the mound collected 15 strikeouts, walking only two all afternoon.

Claire Bowman toed the rubber for the Delaware Christian Eagles. Also giving a very strong performance, the senior allowed only 7 hits (five in game one, two in the second) and five runs total on the day.  Her 16 strikeouts and only one walk in both games was impressive, but not strong enough for the Eagles to come away with the win. Other highlights for the Eagle offense included hits from Justice Cassidy (1), Bowman (2), Emma Rindfuss (2), Maria Crooks (2), Eden Marquis (1) , Katie Neuhart (2), Emily Kalb (1), and Macy Allison (1).

The low scoring day was not for the lack of hits, but instead due to the sound defensive effort from both teams.  Ridgedale left a total of 11 runners on base, while DCS disappointed seven.  Delaware Christian defensive contributors included senior, Zoe Twigg (1 pop fly at center field), Emily Kalb (3 pop flys at left field), Marquis (1 line drive at 3rd), Neuhart (2 pop flys and one solo double play at short), Rindfuss (2 infield flys at short, 5 POs at catcher), Justice (11 POs at catcher), Crooks (5 POs on the day at 1st) and Elizabeth Ringley (2 infield flys, one being a diving catch at 2nd).

Overall a great team effort by the Eagles even though they did not add to the win column.  The Lady Eagles will continue action with a league game on Monday 4/16 as they travel to MOCAL opponent, Tree of Life.  Game will start at 5:30PM.
