Junior Connor Beck used a strong pitching and hitting performance to help lead Delaware Christian (2-0 overall, 1-0 MOCAL) to an 11-1 Mid Ohio Christian Athletic League (MOCAL) win over Shekinah Christian on an extremely windy, late-March afternoon.
The Eagles were able to break a 0-0 tie after Micah Carroll knocked in Drew Hobbs with an RBI groundout in the top of the 3rd inning. Beck then followed with a laser-beam, solo home run to deep left field. The contest remained very close until the 5th inning when the Eagles exploded for 9 runs. Delaware Christian was able to hold off a Shekinah rally bid in the bottom of the 5th to secure victory via the 10-run mercy rule.
On the mound, Beck (2-0) hurled a complete game 2-hitter. Beck (5 IP, 1 R, 0 ER, 11 K, 2 BB, 2 HBP) notched his second pitching victory of the young season while striking out 11 Shekinah hitters.
At the plate, the Eagles were able to convert 5 hits and 12 walks into 11 runs. In addition to his first home run this season, Beck achieved a perfect afternoon at the plate with a 3B, 1B, BB & 3 runs scored. Leadoff man, Drew Hobbs, reached base 3 times & scored twice. Junior Jonah Short reached base 4 times with a run scored. Sophomore Aaron Brandon, Freshman Noah Mack, Junior Conner Bean & Junior Evan Hobbs all contributed to the offensive output with a run scored.
The Eagles now look forward to their April 6 home game against MOCAL league foe, Tree of Life Christian.
